The Calcasieu Parish Communications District was established through the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury as a “special services district”. This allowed the District to pass its own separate taxes apart from those the Police Jury levies. The Communications District is the only “special services district” that encompasses all of Calcasieu Parish.

As a branch off the tree of parish government, the District pays an annual fee to the Police Jury for certain services such as accounting, Human Resource services, and Risk Management.

The governing authority of the District consists of a Board of Commissioners composed of seven members appointed by the Police Jury and meet in regular session the 4th Wednesday of each month.
